The Diet Industry’s Dirty Little Secret

Whether you lose weight and keep it off has very little to do with the specific foods you eat.

That’s the part most diet advice skips over.

The research is clear: the most successful diet is the one you can stick with longest. Not the most restrictive. Not the most optimized. Not the one with the best marketing. The one that fits your life well enough to last.

This means two people can follow completely different eating patterns—and both succeed—if they’ve built the right habits and systems around their choices.

It also means two people can follow the exact same diet and get opposite results based on whether they can sustain it.

What separates people who maintain results from those who don’t isn’t superior knowledge about nutrition.

It’s superior use of behavior change tools: planning, environment design, accountability, and habit formation.

Stop searching for the perfect diet.

Start building IDEAL-Goals that make your current approach sustainable.

If you keep abandoning your meal plans, you probably haven’t planned enough of the steps.

If you eat well until Thursday and fall apart by the weekend, the issue is environmental or structural, not nutritional.

In other words, you are not failing to follow your eating plan because suddenly those foods don’t work for you.

You are failing to follow your intentions because you haven’t done the proper planning and are not taking advantage of the behavior change tools available to you.

You don’t need a better diet.

You need better tools for the diet you already have.
