Many people believe they don’t enjoy eating plain fruit.
Often, the issue is contrast.
Regular exposure to sweetened drinks and desserts raises the sweetness threshold. Fruit tastes muted by comparison.
When added sugars are removed, taste sensitivity resets.
Try this:
For two weeks don’t have any foods or beverages with added sugar (make sure to check the Nutrition Facts label for “Added Sugars”). Then eat an apple. Notice how much sweeter it tastes compared to before.
This shift usually happens quickly and requires no effort. Taste adapts when the environment changes.
You can also see the difference immediately if you drink a soda and then eat an apple.
Notice how dull the apple tastes after soda.
Then wait until you are hungry again and eat only an apple. Notice the difference.
